Compare the complete delivery configuration, including shipping cartons, protective wrapping and loose components. Request carton dimensions and units per carton for both flat and assembled formats.
Assembly
Identify who will assemble the boxes and when. Trial the folds, corner locks or adhesive steps with the intended product and insert. Assembly work that moves to the receiving site still belongs in the project plan.
Cost
Make a comparison sheet covering packaging price, packed volume, freight, assembly and storage. Use the same order quantity and destination for both formats. A reduction in shipping volume is useful only when the resulting assembly and handling arrangements work for the buyer.

Include receiving-site assembly in the comparison
A flat-delivered rigid box can occupy less space before assembly, but the receiving site must erect it and inspect the result. Compare the landed components, assembly work and storage arrangement with an assembled box quotation.
