How to Request a Packaging Quote

Overview

A useful quote brief allows suppliers to price the same product and delivery responsibility.

Product

Provide the structure or reference, internal dimensions, contents and quantities by version. Mark which requirements are fixed and which need a recommendation. A photo shows appearance but may not establish construction, material or usable space. Explain whether access, display, packing speed or delivery matters most.

Specification

Give quantities by style, size and artwork instead of one combined total. Identify the destination and the date the packaging must be available for packing. If comparing quotes, ask each supplier to state the same delivery responsibility and all included components.

Comparison

A useful response should make assumptions visible. Review whether sampling, tooling, printing, assembly and freight are included. Resolve gaps in writing before comparing totals or approving an order. Keep the final brief with the quotation so later changes have a clear reference.

Compare quotations on one specification

For two versions of the same carton, list the quantity and artwork separately. If one supplier prices a printed sample, tooling and freight separately while another includes some of them, separate those lines before comparing the totals.

Information for comparable quotations

Check What to do Why it matters

Technical scope Structure, material, print and finish. Record what each quotation assumes.
Commercial scope Samples, tooling, assembly and delivery. Compare inclusions as well as the unit price.

Record the actual product, material or file version used for the comparison. Identify what remains undecided and which sample or document can resolve it.

How to Request a Packaging Quote FAQ

Describe the product and the packaging role and ask for a recommendation. Clearly marked open decisions are more useful than an invented material specification.

Provide the contents, structure or reference, internal dimensions and quantities by style, size and artwork. Add the destination, required availability date and print scope. Mark undecided specifications clearly rather than guessing.

Separate sampling, tooling, printing, assembly and freight costs. Ask suppliers to state the same delivery responsibility and included components, then resolve assumptions in writing before comparing totals.
